The brief
A small, warm pool for a stone mountain house at 1,100 metres, where winter temperatures regularly drop below freezing and the pool would sit unused for months at a time.
What we built
A heavily insulated 5 x 3 metre shell with frost-tolerant pipework routed above the frost line and a drain-down plant room. The coping and surround use stone reclaimed from the site, and a four-jet hydrotherapy wall runs off its own booster pump.
The result
Three winters in with no frost damage and no cracked pipework. The owners now use the pool through the shoulder seasons rather than draining it in October.
