Family Garden Pool, Nicosia
An 8 x 4 metre skimmer pool with a shallow shelf for young children, a safety cover and a heat pump that stretches the season to eight months.
The brief
A pool two young children could use safely, in a courtyard garden with a single narrow access route for machinery, and low enough running costs that it would not sit unheated for half the year.
What we built
An 8 x 4 metre shell with a 1.1 metre shallow end and a 400mm wide seating shelf along one side, finished in a pale grey mosaic. A slatted automatic safety cover doubles as insulation overnight, and a 9kW inverter heat pump keeps the water at 28 degrees from March to October.
The result
Delivered in nine weeks including landscaping. The cover cut heating demand enough that the family swim comfortably in early March, which is two months earlier than the neighbouring properties.
